Mere Green football tournament is back!

We are again running a football tournament for the members of Better Gym Mere Green, after last years event was such a great success of bringing together members of all ages and backgrounds in an event that eventually saw James' team run out winners in the final!

Last year we had 3 teams playing 7 a side football, playing eachother twice in a group stage and then the top 2 teams taking on eachother one last time in a final to eventually crown the winners, in the group stage it was very close all the way up until the final game, Ben and terry's team beating eachother once, Terry then getting a draw and loss against James' team, and finally in the games that Ben and James played, each came out with a draw!

This meant getting to the final was James' team vs Ben' team, it was once again a very close fought match, that did not see any goals, but was more of a tactical spectical, which finished 0-0 and went straight to penalties, and after some really quality (and some not so quality) penalties, it eventually came down to James' team goalkeeper pulling standing strong and saving the final shot down the middle to win them the tournament, and put him straight in the hat for player of the tournament!

This year we are looking to make the event even bigger! More teams, more games and hopefully an even bigger final! Even if you are not in to playing football yourself, we would love to try and pack the stand out as best we can and have a really nice social with our members after the games have concluded!
