The hottest days ever!

So as we all know, Monday and Tuesday were the hottest days recorded not only this year, but ever in the UK, with highs of 40°C, Jesus Green Lido was fully booked out for both days. With highs of 140 people in the pool at once, and 500 plus people on the outside catching a nice tan.

On Monday the 18th, we had a live broadcast from Channel 5 starring Dan Walker and his team, it was a pleasure to have Dan come down to the Lido, and be able to present his show live from poolside.

On the Tuesday the 19th we had both ITV Anglia and BBC look east come down to broadcast live from poolside as well, they managed to get interactions with pool users as well interviews with some staff as well.

We ran our usual program of Swim for fitness and Swim for all, however with almost 3 times are usual occupancy.

We manged to feature in the guardian online.

We managed to get extra staff in to work on both the days, so we managed to create a fast track que for people who already had bookings, so they wouldn’t have to wait in line for ages like they used to before COVID times.

We had the café open for longer hours than usual, serving buckets and buckets of ice cream and lots of slushies to help keep our customer nice and cool.

We would like to thank our customers for being co-operative during this hard and busy time, as well as our staff for sitting out in the tough heat working for long days to keep the pool open.

When we get another one of these heat waves come around, we do suggest that people pre-book their sessions either via the app, website on in centre ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
