On the 14th March, Cambridge University took to the ice to play against Oxford University in their annual varsity matches. The 2026 games saw the 108th Men’s Blues match, the 44th Women’s Blues match, the 8th Huskies’ match and the annual Alumni match take place on home ice at Cambridge Ice Arena. 

Supporters for Oxford and Cambridge took to the stands to spectate the big games, bringing in a great atmosphere filled with excitement and suspense. 

The Alumni match at the start of the day saw a tied result between Cambridge and Oxford finishing the game with a score of 1-1. In their second game, Cambridge Alumni managed to claim the win scoring 2-0 against Oxford Alumni. 

Oxford Vikings B came with strong opposition against Cambridge Huskies. Despite the Huskies’ determination, Vikings B won with a score of 8-3. 

The stands sold out for the Women’s and Men’s Blues matches for the remainder of the day. The crowd was in suspense for the Women’s Blues game; they held their ground right until before the final buzzer where Oxford Blues scored 1 goal taking home the victory. 

The Men’s Blues made a huge win in the final game of the day against Oxford Blues, with a final score of 5-1. This win sealed the Blues’ 7th varsity win in 8 years. They proudly bring home the King Edward VII trophy marking a great end to the event. 

We are so proud of Cambridge University's performance this year and the local talent displayed by our players. Next year, Cambridge will battle for the trophy away at Oxford Ice Rink for the 2027 Varsity games.
