The Commonwealth Games will begin on 23rd July 2026, in Glasgow, and what is hugely exciting is we will have a home grown Cornwall athlete competiting.

We are so pround to be supporting Samuel Jose, one of our GLL Sport Foundation Athletes. Only a few weeks ago Samuel got the call to say he had been selected to represent Great Britian in the games.

Samuel has been a GLL Sport Foundation Supported Athlete since his late teens, and now at the age of 24 he will be competing in the T20 Long-Jump, in Glasgow.

Samuel Jose, from Penzance is one of only 20 para-athletes selected to represent England in the 2026 Commonwealth Games. What a huge achievement.

This will be his fifth England call-up and first major Games debut. Sam was first selected for the England team in 2025 for the World Para Grand Prix in Paris where he finished sixth.

Having started training with Cornwall Athletics Club, when he was 14, Sam is now supported by England Athletics on their Senior Development Programme and the Para Academy. He is coached by his mum Helen Jose, Stuart Caudery (father of PoleVaulter Molly Caudrey) John Shepherd (Jump Coach London), and Neil Tunstall. Neil is also a support GLL Sport Foundation Athlete, look for further news story on Neil.

It leaves us to say GOOD LUCK Samuel, you are going to smash it in Glasgow.
