Cumbria Waste Group is proud to announce its sponsorship of The Great Cumbrian Run 2026, and is delighted that this year’s event will be re-named The Cumbria Waste Group Great Cumbrian Run as part of the partnership.

The Cumbria Waste Group Great Cumbrian Run 2026 will take place on 4th October, alongside the Cumbrian Run 5K and 10k as well as the Family Fun Run.
Sign up now at Events up North GLL, the worker-owned co-operative and charitable social enterprise that operates Better leisure centres, has managed the Great Cumbrian Run half marathon for the last X years in collaboration with Sport in Action. Now in its 42nd year, the event will support charity partners including I CAAN (Independent Community Autism Activity Network), Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland, Every Life Matters, JIGSAW (Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice) and Eden Valley Hospice.
A proportion of the proceeds of the event each year is reinvested in the Sands Centre Carlisle to support the local community through initiatives including:
- The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme that provides free activities and meals for eligible children during school holidays
- Children’s 10p Swim Scheme - children aged 16 and under can swim for just 10p at the Sands Centre during school holidays
