Our brand-new sensory lighting and sound system at Barnet Copthall Learner Pool will be officially live on Wednesday 27th May with spaces available to book from 10.30am-2.30pm. A very special visit from our resident mermaids for a under the water themed day! Come dressed in your favourite sea animal costume and win a prize for best dressed.

Prior to the event Barnet Partnership Manager, Dan Morris has said "Investing and installing in the sensory system at Barnet Copthall has allowed us to significantly enhance the environment within the learner pool, creating a more inclusive, supportive and calming space for children and young people with sensory needs. We look forward to inviting members of the Community in to our pool to benefit from the new system."

The instilation of the sensory system combines carefully designed lighting with an integrated audio–lighting setup. Together, these features help create a soothing and adaptable atmosphere, supporting swimmers who may benefit from reduced sensory overload or a more controlled environment. By allowing lighting and sound to work together, the space can now be tailored to different sessions and needs, making the facility more accessible and welcoming for a wider range of users.

Improvements like this help ensure our community facilities are inclusive and accessible for everyone. By investing in thoughtful design and modern technology, we can create spaces where more children and young people feel comfortable, supported and able to take part in activities like swimming.

This upgrade represents a fantastic boost for our community and a meaningful step forward in making our public spaces work for everyone.
