Enfield host active Carers April

On Wednesday 15th April, The Enfield leisure centres came together to support Active Carers April, recognising the vital role that unpaid carers play in our community and highlighting the importance of staying active both physically and mentally alongside their caring responsibilities. Across the Enfield partnership, a range of free sessions were hosted to welcome carers, alongside offering free one day passes to anyone wanting to try out one of the five facilities across the partnership. Classes on offer were designed to be inclusive and accessible with sessions programmed across the day to offer the best variation of times to fit carers needs. This included yoga/mindfulness, Pilates and group cycle. A key highlight of the day was the involvement of Enfield Carers Centre, a recent partner with Better, who hosted a stall at Southbury Leisure centre to speak directly with new and prospective customers. Their presence ensured carers could access expert advice, information and signposting to wider support services available locally.

Active Enfield and Better Community team host recruitment talks with local school

The community team were approached by the Active Enfield team to support their work experience students from Winchmore senior school and give them insight into who Better are and what we offer. The two teams collaborated on a 2 hour workshop explaining all things client and Community sport related. The day started with delivering our presentation and discussions around who we are, our values, and recruitment opportunities within GLL. This was all delivered interactively with Q & A’s encouraged. We then moved onto meeting staff with further questions being asked about job roles and day to day activities. The day finished with gym inductions and the chance to experience our facilities first hand. The feedback from the clients HR team (who were also in attendance) was very positive and the students themselves responded with great feedback also. We look forward to future collaborations.

Edmonton Leisure Centre celebrates 1 year anniversary

Edmonton Leisure Centre marked its first anniversary since reopening with a vibrant community celebration on Tuesday 28th April, welcoming families to enjoy free swimming and fitness activities. The event featured a range of taster sessions, including swimming, body conditioning, group cycle and step aerobics. A total of 60 pupils from Brettenham Primary School took part in a three hour fun swim session, while a further 55 participants enjoyed the fitness and group exercise activities available throughout the day. The leisure centre reopened last year following a significant two‑phase refurbishment designed to modernise and enhance the entire facility. Improvements included upgraded gym and cycle studios, a refurbished sports hall and fitness class studio, enhanced soft play provision, and modernised swimming pool facilities.

Enfield achieves CHiPs accreditation

We are proud to announce that we have now added Southbury and Southgate to chips accreditation alongside the first centre in the partnership to receive this last year Albany Leisure centre. Online training was delivered to the centre teams, and these centres will be added to the CHiPS register in Enfield. With future online training in the pipeline for Edmonton Leisure centre and Arnos pool, watch this space for full partnership accreditation. This gives young people in the borough a welcoming safe haven for those that may need it.

Easter in Enfield a hit with local families

During the Easter holidays, just over 3,500 participant visits were recorded across the two week period in March and April. Families were able to take part in a wide range of family friendly activities, including Swim for All sessions, family fun swims, junior classes and soft play’s available across two centres. To celebrate the season, the Community Team, working alongside the Southbury team, organised and promoted a dedicated Easter Party within Southbury’s soft play facility. The event welcomed 40 children and featured an Easter egg hunt, goody bags for every child and refreshments for all attendees. Feedback from those who attended was overwhelmingly positive, with many families expressing interest in when the next event would take place

Southbury team attend Capital City college to engage with student community

The Community Sport Team engaged with Capital City College Enfield in Brimsdown on Wednesday 15th April, with Southbury staff attending on their behalf due to a clash with the carers open day. The visit focused on raising awareness of Enfield’s service and facility upgrades, promoting student and corporate memberships, and building relationships with students and staff. The engagement was successful, leading to invitations to return for further collaboration, including sports department engagement, careers day involvement, potential fitness taster sessions, and promotion through the college newsletter. Overall, the visit was a valuable opportunity to strengthen local community partnerships.
