Net Zero Week in Hammersmith & Fulham
As Net Zero Week (4th-11th July) shines a spotlight on environmental action across the UK, leisure centres in Hammersmith & Fulham are playing their part in building a more sustainable future through major investment and environmental improvements.
Working alongside Hammersmith & Fulham Council, Better have been involved in significant projects designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and enhance local biodiversity in Hammersmith & Fulham centres. These initiatives are helping to ensure that local facilities remain sustainable for future generations while continuing to provide high-quality services for residents.
One of the largest projects has been the to decarbonise some of its public buildings programme, which includes investment at Lillie Road Leisure Centre and Phoenix Fitness Centre and Janet Adegoke Swimming Pool.
Supported through the Governmentâs Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, the programme is designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and cut operating costs. The project forms part of the council's strategy to decarbonise public buildings and support its ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across the borough. There have been LED lights and solar panels installed and are currently in the process of adding air source heat pumps.
We also encourage our customers to make environmentally friendly choices during every visit.
Centres promotes walking, cycling and the use of public transport, making it easy for customers to travel sustainably. We also encourage members to bring reusable water bottles, with reusable bottles available to purchase at reception and free water refill stations available throughout the centre.
By making small changes together, we can all help reduce our environmental impact while supporting healthier lifestyles.
As Hammersmith & Fulham continues its journey towards a lower-carbon future, these projects highlight how leisure centres can play an important role in tackling climate change, supporting biodiversity and creating more sustainable communities for everyone.
