As a charitable social enterprise, we're committed to improving our service in your local community. That's why, in partnership with Newham Council, we’re pleased to let you know that we started a series of upgrades at East Ham Leisure Centre. Phase 1 is now complete and from 5th January 2026 we'll be moving onto Phase 2.
What's Changed So Far?
Gym
Improvements to all aspects of your gym including the upper and lower floors have now be partially completed. The upstairs main gym has now received a full refurbishment including redecoration, install of bright motivational workout zones and completely upgraded kit which is the latest cardio and strength Technogym equipment. Women's Only Gym
The women's only gym area has also received a refreshed look and feel, with brand new lighting, decoration as well as replacing all the current kit with new Technogym equipment.
Studio and Changing Rooms
Both the female and male changing facilities will be reopening soon after we complete a full refresh. Lastly, in January we'll be replacing kit in the studio along with the latest Technogym Group Cycle bikes. The flooring and lighting will also be upgraded to create a more immersive in class experience.
Temporary Disruptions
During the improvement works, there will be some disruptions to our usual service as we continue into phase 2 of the refurbishment.
Gym (lower strength zone)
This area of the gym will temporarily close from Monday 4th February whilst we carry out some major upgrades. We hope to have this area reopened by Wednesday 4th February.
Fitness Class Studio
The fitness class studio upgrades will begin on Monday 5th January as well. During this time our fitness class programme will be run from the Sports Hall so there is no disruption to your timetable.
Keeping you moving
We appreciate that these temporary pauses in some services may not suit everyone.
Therefore, all members that held a membership with the home centre as East Ham Leisure Centre from 27th October, have been automatically upgraded to partnership wide access. This means you can access all local Better leisure centres in Newham whilst works are ongoing. Check out the full list of all Newham centre locations here.
Please note: upgrades will revert back to your original membership type in January, once all upgrades have been completed.
