Come and join us in partnership with Team England at Hough End Leisure Centre for a weekend filled with free sports and fun family activities for everyone to enjoy.  Ready to unleash your sporting spirit? Members and non-member can jump in and experience the excitement of Commonwealth Games-inspired sports and activities. Book your spot in advance to enjoy a whole range of activities.

Whether you're trying something completely new or rediscovering a sport you love, there's plenty of fun waiting for all ages and abilities.

Our Open Weekend Timetable:

Gym Taster Sessions: 
Our gym taster sessions provide an opportunity for you to try out our facility, gym equipment and functional space before signing up. 

Date: Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th July
Time: 07:00AM - 19:00PM 

Adult & Junior Gym Taster Sessions:
Adult & Junior Gym provides an option for Juniors aged between 11 - 17 to attend the gym outside of Junior Gym sessions with a parent or guardian. 

Date: Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th July
Time: 10:00AM - 16:00PM

Fitness Class Taster Session:
We have recently grown our fitness class programme - take a look at our timetable and try out our open day fitness class for more experience.

Date: Sunday 19th July - HIIT 13:30

Swimbies Taster Sessions
Date: Sunday 19th July
Time: 3 months to 24 months - 9:00 - 9:30am & 2 to 4 years - & 9:30- 10:00am

Drop in Sessions:

Restart the Heart Drop in Session
Join our Restart the Heart drop-in session with Jade at Hough End and learn the lifesaving skills that could help save a life.

Date: Sunday 19th July
Time: 10:30 - 11:30am
Accessed by booking an Open Day General Access session via the app or online.

Squash Drop in Sessions:
Want to try out Squash for the first time? Drop in to our Squash sessions in partnership with South Manchester Squash and Racketball Club and learn the basic skills.

Date: Sunday 19th July
Instructors: Haaris & Kirk

Juniors (age 5-9)

10:00am - 10:40am, 10:40am - 11:20am, 11:20am - 12:00pm, 12:00pm - 12:40pm

Adults (18+ & beginner friendly)

12:40pm - 1:20pm and 1:20pm - 2pm 

What do I need to bring?   
Please wear comfortable and appropriate clothing for all classes and other  activities; equipment is provided. Please make sure you bring a towel and water with you.  

What if I have a health condition? 
Please make sure you let the members of staff know about any health conditions prior to activity.  

What if I have never been before?  
If you're new to any of the activities or unsure about using certain equipment, feel free to ask one of our staff members. We’re here to guide you. If you’re using the gym or taking part in any physical activities, please ensure you’ve warmed up first. If you need guidance, our fitness instructors are here to help.  

How to book 
If you already have an account, you can sign in and book activities. 

If you're not a member with Better or do not have an account you'll need to sign up for a free account so that you can book any of the activities available during the open weekend. 

Booking your open weekend activity online 

Log in via our customer portal. Once logged on, follow these steps:

  • Click the ‘Book Activity’ button. 
  • Select a local leisure centre by entering your postcode or choosing from the list. 
  • Choose the category 'Open Weekend'  
  • Scroll to 18th or 19th July and find an open weekend activity that interests you. 
  • Click ‘Book’ and confirm the booking. 

You can also book activities through the Better UK app. After setting up your account: 

  • Tap the menu at the top-left and select ‘My Clubs.’ 
  • Tap the plus button and choose a leisure centre. 
  • Choose the category 'Open Weekend' 
  • Scroll to 18th or 19th July and find an open weekend activity that interests you. 
  • Click ‘Book’ and follow the steps to confirm.
