Abraham Moss Library and Leisure Centre were proud to be chosen to hose a successful community knife amnesty event, organised by members of Abraham Moss Warriors and community leader, June Kelly MBE, with funding provided through the Young Manchester managed Hope for Cheetham project.

The event brought together local young people, families, community leaders and partner organisations to raise awareness of knife crime, encourage positive choices and promote community safety. A knife amnesty bin was made available throughout the event by Greater Manchester Police, allowing members of the public to safely and anonymously surrender knives.

A key feature of the day was a practical first aid workshop delivered by Manchester First Aid Training. More than 50 young people took part in hands-on sessions covering CPR, wound care, bandaging techniques, tourniquet application and the use of haemostatic dressings.

The training reflected the equipment available within the centre’s newly installed public bleed control kit, helping participants develop potentially life-saving skills and ensures members of the public will now have 24/7 access to an emergency bleed kit located on the outside of Abraham Moss Library and Leisure Centre, 365 days a year!

Parents and local residents also had the opportunity to engage directly with representatives from Greater Manchester Police, discussing concerns around knife crime and learning more about the work being undertaken to support young people and keep communities safe.

Abraham Moss Library & Leisure Centre is proud to have supported this important initiative and would like to thank all organisers, volunteers, partners and attendees for helping to make the event such a success. Together, we can continue to build stronger, safer communities for everyone.

The centre would like to extend its thanks to those in attendance including

MP for Rusholme, Afzal Khan

Lord Mayor, Councillor Shaukat Ali

Executive Member for Culture, Libraries & Leisure Councillor Shazia Butt

Ward Councillors for Crumpsall & Cheetham, Cllrs Jawad Amin, Fiaz Riasat and Naeem Ul Hassan.
