The Manchester Aquatics Centre has taken an important step toward a greener future by joining forces with Leisure Loop, a national closed-loop recycling initiative designed specifically for swimming pools and leisure facilities.

This new partnership introduces a free swim equipment recycling scheme available to all centre users, providing a simple and effective way to reduce waste. Swimmers can now recycle a wide range of commonly discarded items, including goggles, floats, kickboards, and other end-of-life swim equipment that would otherwise end up in landfill.

What makes the Leisure Loop initiative unique is its fully circular approach. All items collected at the centre are kept within the Leisure Loop system, where they are broken down and reprocessed into durable, long-life recycled products. These products are then reintroduced into leisure environments, helping to significantly cut down on waste while supporting sustainable practices within the industry.

The introduction of this scheme reflects the Manchester Aquatics Centre’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement. By making recycling more accessible, the centre hopes to inspire visitors of all ages to think more consciously about how they dispose of their swim gear and to play an active role in protecting the planet.

Visitors can find the Leisure Loop recycling point within the centre, making it easy to drop off unwanted equipment during their visit. For those who are unsure about what can be recycled or where to locate the drop-off point, staff are on hand to help, simply ask a team member at reception for more information.

With this initiative now in place, the Manchester Aquatics Centre continues to lead by example, demonstrating how small changes in everyday habits can contribute to a much larger environmental impact
