Work has begun on the eagerly anticipated new Outer West Leisure Centre. The new £19.8million leisure centre, funded from the Government’s national Levelling-Up Fund and up to £2.5m from Newcastle City Council and GLL, will be located on the existing West Denton Leisure Centre site. Once complete, the centre will will boast a 25m 8 lane main pool, teaching pool, splash pad,  fully equipped gym, 3 studios, sports hall, library, soft play and cafe.

Disruption to car parking

As works have now commenced, the library has now closed and a new temporary library is being prepared within the West Denton Gym car park.  The temproary library is set to re-open to the public on June 16th.

In addition to the parking bays taken by the temporarily library, over the coming weeks and months there will be further disruption to the car park as the main building site compound is set up.

We would like to remind customers that the parking bays immediately in front of the main gates also belong to West Denton Gym, and are often unused so we hope that using these spaces will minimise the disruption to parking arrangements.

Whilst we understand that these works will innevitably make the car park to the exisiting facilities busier, it is one step closer to new state of the art faciltiies that we all can't wait to see open and benefiting our local community.

Please remember as the car park gets busier, to only park in marked bays and respect the accessible parking bays - only using them if you are a blue badge holder.

Please note - All of the exisitng facilities at West Denton Gym remain open as normal.

We'll provide further updates as and when we can.
