Did you know? One in four adults feel lonely some or all of the time. There's no single cause and there's no one solution. After all we're all different! But, the longer we feel lonely, the more we are at risk of mental health problems. Some people are also at higher risk of feeling lonely than others.

For Mental Health Awareness week this year, the Mental Health Foundation are raising awareness of the impact of loneliness on our mental health and the practical steps we can take to address it.

Human beings are social creatures. For the great majority of us, social connection and belonging are central to our well-being. But, when the quality or quantity of our social relationships does not meet our needs or expectations, we can start to feel lonely. While loneliness is a common exeprience when it is long term and enduring it can have a serious, detrimental effect on our mental health and it must be taken seriously.

Certain population subgroups are at higher risk of mental health problems because of the greater exposure and vulnerability to unfavourable social, economic, and enviromental circumstances but it can affect people of all age groups, genders and enconomical status and rather than seeing it as a taboo subject there are places and resources to aid and support in the treatment of mental health problems.

We here at Better Gym Brentwood asked our members if they would like to share some positive words or quotes that motivate and inspire them both mentally and physically when they find themselves faced with loneliness, difficulties or life's challenges. To those that shared, we are very grateful.
