This October, Trinity leisure Centre supports Restart a Heart – a nationwide initiative to that encourages as many people as possible to learn CPR. According to the British Heart Foundation, survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests remain low, but immediate CPR can more than double a person’s chances of survival.

Each year, approximately 30,000 people suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest – that’s around 84 individuals every day. But survival rates are low, with just one in ten people recovering.

Trinity Leisure Centre is proud to announce its participation in Restart a Heart Day with a special drop-in CPR and defibrillation workshop taking place on Tuesday 16th October from 4.30pm-6.30pm.

The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of early CPR in cardiac emergencies and to empower the local community with life-saving skills. We will encourage everyone to learn the steps to CPR and how to use a defib. No matter your physical abilities, you have the power to make a difference in an emergency. The chances of surviving a cardiac arrest are significantly increased if a defibrillator is used. For every minute without CPR and defibrillation, the chance of survival reduces by up to 10%.

“Every second counts when someone goes into cardiac arrest,” said Joe Gray, Trinity's RLSS trainer assessor. “By offering this workshop, we want to give people the confidence to step in and help in an emergency situation. CPR is a skill that truly can save lives.”

Nick Grazier, RLSS UK, said: “We have been supporting the Restart a Heart campaign for a number of years, but we have been actively encouraging leisure operators to get more involved this year, as there are still concerningly high numbers of individuals who have never learnt CPR and it is a really important skill to know in any situation.”

Thursday 16th October 4.30pm-6.30pm, pop in, ask questions and learn life-saving skills.
