Sensory Pool Launch
On Wednesday 27th May Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre proudly celebrated the official opening of its new Sensory Pool Lighting System with a vibrant community launch event designed to showcase the centre's commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
The sensory pool was officially opened by the Worshipful the Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Zahra Beg, who marked the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Mayor was joined by customers, families, and staff, who gathered to celebrate this exciting new addition to the leisure centre.
The event embraced an "Under the Sea" theme, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere for visitors of all ages. Guests were greeted at reception by a mermaid, octopus, and a synchronised swimmer who performed in the pool before the first swimmers entered the water. Additional activities included face painting, soft play in the sports hall, and a popular hook-a-duck game at the entrance to the leisure centre, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The launch was a success, with all sensory swim sessions fully booked throughout the four-hour event. The positive response from the customers highlighted the demand for inclusive leisure opportunities and demonstrated the value of creating accessible spaces for all.
The Sensory Pool Lighting System has been installed to provide a calmer and more supportive swimming environment for individuals with disabilities, additional needs, and sensory sensitivities. By reducing sensory barriers and creating a more comfortable atmosphere, the initiative aims to make swimming more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
As part of this commitment, Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre now offers a range of dedicated sensory swimming sessions. The introduction of these sessions represents another important step in Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre's ongoing mission to create an inclusive environment where all members of the community can participate in physical activity, build confidence, and enjoy the benefits of swimming.
Wednesday: Sensory Swim Fun - 10.30am-11.30am
Friday: Sensory Swim Fun - 6.45pm-.30pm
Sunday: Sensory Swim SEND - 4pm-4.45pm
Friday: Sensory Swim SEND - 1pm-1.45pm
