To mark the 61st anniversary of Carers UK, we’re partnering with the charity during Active April (1st April – 1st May 2026) to support carers to stay active and well.

On Wednesday 15th April, carers can enjoy a free one-day pass to their local Better leisure centres facility, giving access to the gym, swimming pool and fitness classes (subject to availability). This must be claimed in person at reception on the day and cannot be booked online. Proof of Carer’s Allowance or Carers UK membership will be required.

Throughout the campaign period, Carers UK members and those receiving Carer’s Allowance can also access a discounted membership for £34 per month, which includes full access to gyms, swimming pools and group fitness classes across participating Better leisure centres.

The initiative highlights the importance of physical activity for carers, with research showing that 67% of unpaid carers feel more connected to others when they stay active, helping to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing.

GLL Chief Executive Peter Bundey said:
“We recognise the vital role that carers play in their communities and want to support their health and wellbeing by making it easier to stay active.”

Carers UK Chief Executive Helen Walker welcomed the partnership, encouraging carers to take advantage of the opportunity to support their wellbeing, reduce stress and connect with others.
