GLL staff members from across the Hillingdon borough joined together, donned their swimsuits to complete 5k between them raising a whopping £1,378.00 for Marie curie on their 40th Year of their annual Swimathon to earn much needed funds for Cancer Reserach UK and Marie Curie Nurses. Each of team has a friend or family member who has received a cancer diagnosis and understood these much-needed funds would be put to good use by the charities.

One of the Hillingdon Triathletes, Boo, has received treatment for bowel cancer and wanted to give back to St Mark's Foundation where she received her surgery. Boo and some fellow triathletes created an amazing array of cakes to sell to the customers at Hillingdon Complex. Boo also created a creative and eye-catching edible 'poo shaped'  treat made from flour, butter, cocoa and sugar which sparked some bowel friendly conversations. The cake sale raised an impressive £1,500 for Bowel Cancer UK.

Finally the Lido welcomed Nicola and 20 enthusiastic swimmers who were completing the equivalent of an English Channel crossing to France to raise money for Oceans of Hope, a charity that helps people with living with Multiple Sclerosis to overcome difficulties together through the experience of sailing and ocean adventures. The charity brings people together as a crew on real sea voyages, building confidence, resilience and community and remind them what their bodies are capable of and not to be defined by their diagnosis.   The swimmers whipped through the lengths so quickly they were able to complete the return crossing (with a little help from the Hillingdon Lido regulars). Nicola had set herself a fundraising target of £1,000.00 but smashed it by achieving an amazing £6,697.00!

Well done to all out amazing fundraising teams, for your hard work and amazing contributions to your charities.
