Thanks to funding from London Borough of Waltham Forest’s Best Start in Life programme we have an exciting 6 weeks of free active storytelling to offer in Leyton and Leytonstone. We hope local people take up this offer and help their children between the ages of 2 and 4 years old actively follow the stories in the sessions. For both sessions guardians will be required to support the child with the activity.

Leyton Leisure Centre’s spacious Studio 1 will be hosting Wee Movers for dance storytelling on Mondays from 9.30am-10.15am starting on Monday 19th of June for 2 to 4 year olds. Founded by Fiona Campbell, Wee Movers offers playful, energetic children’s dance and yoga classes in east London and beyond. Combining contemporary dance with yoga, the classes are a fun introduction to movement where children are encouraged to explore a story and express themselves in a supportive environment. Any questions please email Fiona on info@weemovers.co.uk.

Leytonstone Leisure Centre is doing Aqua Storytelling on Tuesdays 10am-10.30am and Wednesday 12pm-12.30pm. Aqua Storytelling for ages 3 to 4 takes place in the teaching pool. Tuesdays 10am-10.30am and Wednesdays 12pm-12.30pm. Active storytelling is using the water to tell a story so encouraging the children to feel like they are in the tale. Imagine hearing there is a storm at sea and the kids get to splash around in the pool and then they need to find a float to get to the island. Guardians will need to fill in a quick form before taking part for the first time. Any questions email Leytonstone@GLL.ORG.

The project is primarily designed to support those who do not currently access our services but of course it is open to all. Leyton’s Dance Storytelling is a new activity for us which we are trialling. However, if you are thinking of joining our Swimbies programme Leytonstone’s Aqua Storytelling sessions are a great way to experience a similar initiative.
