Building works August update at Better, Sugden Sports Centre

In partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester we are currently working on a £2.6 million refurbishment at Sugden Sports Centre.  Below is an update on the progress of the refurbishment works to date and disruptions that you need to be aware of:

PHASES ONE AND TWO: COMPLETE

All works in the activity rooms, upper gym, lower cardio gym and the changing rooms and toilets outside sports halls A and B are now finished.

FINAL PHASE
The final phase includes works to refurbish the free weights area in the lower gym, the group cycling studio, reception area, meeting rooms and changing rooms outside sports halls C and D.  Further details can be seen below:

  • LOWER GYM AND GROUP CYCLE STUDIO UPDATE

The building work is due to be completed week commencing 13th August, then the new equipment will be installed.  The new gym will open on Thursday 23rd August.

While the gym is closed at Sugden Sports Centre, members will be able to access the gym at Better, Manchester Aquatics Centre between Wednesday 15th and Wednesday 22nd August at no extra cost. 

During this time the new group cycles will also be installed, as well as a new virtual fitness class programme in both the dance studio and group cycle studio.

  • RECEPTION AND CHANGING ROOM UPDATE

The new reception area is scheduled to be open from Monday 10th September 2018, when all work will be completed. Until then please continue to access the centre from temporary location in the gym via Grosvenor Street.

Halls C and D will be available to book from the Monday 10th September 2018 and you will also be able to access to the new changing rooms and toilets.

CASHLESS PAYMENTS FROM MONDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2018

From Monday 10th September, Sugden Sports Centre will be moving to a cashless system.  You will only be able to pay for your activities with either of the following:

  • Credit / debit cards
  • Manchester Met cards

You will still require £1 for lockers, or alternatively you can purchase a coin keyring from reception for £1, paying on your card.  We will be sending out more information to you about the cashless process before 10th September.
