When will the works be finished and the new gym reopen?
The refurbishment is scheduled to be completed by January 2026. We’ll keep members updated throughout the project with any changes to timelines.
Will the gym stay open during the works?
Yes, the gym will remain open during September and October, but with some temporary changes to access and equipment availability. From December, the gym will be temporarily closed for a few weeks to allow the main works to be completed.
Will there still be equipment available for me to use?
Yes. While works are taking place in November, some equipment may be out of use. From December, a temporary gym with cardio equipment will be available in the studio.
What happens if my favourite machine or area is out of action?
We’ll do our best to keep as much equipment available as possible, but some areas will be restricted at times. Members will also have access to nearby centres where you’ll find a full range of facilities.
What leisure centres can I use while Dorking Sports Centre is affected?
Better Health members can use Leatherhead Leisure Centre, Tadworth Leisure and Community Centre, Donyngs Leisure Centre and Horley Leisure Centre from 1st September.
I’m a Better Swim member – can I also get temporary access?
No, the additional access only applies to Better Health members.
Will studio classes still run as normal?
Yes, most classes will continue as normal. However, during December when the studio is being used for temporary gym equipment, some classes may be rescheduled or moved. We’ll update members in advance.
What about accessibility during the works?
During September, you’ll need to use the back staircase to access the gym. The lift will still be available on request—please speak to reception and they will arrange access for you.
What if I need to use the lift while the stairs are out of action?
The lift will still be in use whilst the works are going on. However, in the interest of your safety, please let a member of staff know if you need to use the lift and we will assist you.
Will my membership be affected by the disruption?
All Better Health members will automatically receive temporary access to alternative centres until the project is complete.
Can I freeze my membership?
Unfortunately, we do not offer a freeze to memberships unless for medical reasons. Please use our other local centres to which your membership has been upgraded to access temporarily.
Where can I find the latest updates?
All updates will be published on our website and shared in-centre. Please check regularly to stay informed about changes to access or schedules.
Will lockers still be available?
Yes, lockers are available outside the studio and in the sports hall corridor.
Where can I shower and leave my things?
In our Swim village we have 6 cubical showers and 4 open showers for customers to use. We have lockers in both this area, the sports hall corridor and outside the studio.
Will you raise the price because of these works?
Our normal price rise will happen in April but not as a result of these works.
Why are you making these changes?
As a charitable social enterprise, we reinvest into local communities. This refurbishment will give you a bigger gym, a dedicated weights area, and 30 new pieces of Technogym equipment to improve your fitness experience.
