Our major work at to construct a modern 25 metre, 6-lane community pool at Palmer Park is coming on at pace.

With the steel frame and swimming pool tank now complete, earlier than originally expected and whilst this work continues at pace, the next step will be the refurbishment of the existing stadium, including a new roof and windows. A scaffold around the existing stadium building will be erected in mid-April in preparation to replace the existing roof and windows.

The roof replacement and interior works will necessitate the closure of the gym, indoor sports facilities and spectator stand from 25 April until the opening of the new facilities in late 2022.

The athletics track and velodrome will continue to be in use. Temporary toilet facilities will be provided for the duration of the closure for use by stadium users and members of the public.

Gym users have been informed by GLL of the closure and will be able to access alternative fitness facilities at other GLL run Reading leisure centres during this period.

External works will see a new footpath installed from the stadium to Palmer Park Avenue. This work will start on 4 April and will include the new drainage serving the swimming pool. Heras fencing will be installed along the new footpath route and will remain whilst the grass re-establishes. An access area across this route will be available outside working hours. The new trees along this footpath will be planted later in the year.
