Tadworth Leisure & Community Centre Hosts Celebration for Local Athletes Supported by GLL Sport Foundation
On Thursday 26th June, Tadworth Leisure & Community Centre proudly hosted the Reigate & Banstead GLL Sport Foundation celebration event, recognising the outstanding achievements of local athletes supported by the Foundation.
The event was attended by 16 supported athletes, many accompanied by friends and family, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere. The ceremony was led by Colin Coughtrey, GLL’s National Community Engagement Manager, and Steve Hannen, Head of Service. A special guest appearance was made by Cllr Zelanie Cooper, Deputy Mayor of Reigate & Banstead, who delivered a memorable closing speech emphasizing the power of sport and the importance of supporting local athletes through the GLL Sport Foundation.
The evening opened with an impressive badminton demonstration by talented GSF athlete brothers Shevin and Trevon Dias, setting the tone for a night of celebration and inspiration.
Awards were presented by Colin Coughtrey and the Deputy Mayor, recognising the achievements of athletes from across Reigate & Banstead.
This year, the GLL Sport Foundation supports:
- 43 local athletes
- £28,450 in total funding
- 84% of athletes receiving no other funding
- 56% of athletes aged under 21, including 28% under 16
- Representation across 11 different sports
