Definition of good health and wellbeing
The word health means different things to different people
Health is broadly divided into physical and mental wellbeing and they are closely linked..
Poor physical health can lead to an increased risk of developing mental health problems. Similarly, poor mental health can negatively impact on physical health, leading to an increased risk of some medical conditions.
- Dangers of an unhealthy lifestyle – there are some activities that we do that are known to have a bad effect on our health. These activities include: eating unhealthily, smoking, drinking to excess and not being active enough. Each of these things can have a negative effect on our bodies and our minds.
- How can you take care of yourself – By making a few healthy choices you can make a big difference to your physical and mental wellbeing; eat healthy foods, get enough sleep, be physically active, and avoid drugs and excessive alcohol.
- What we provide – We offer a full range of inclusive services to promote physical activity both inside and outside of the Leisure Centres, Libraries and Children’s Centres that we operate. For a list of the services available to you please visit your local web pages at www.better.org.uk.
- Why we do what we do? – We’re a charitable social enterprise, which means we work for the benefit of everyone: the public, the communities we work in, the environment, our staff and our partners – we’re committed to promoting and supporting individuals to make healthy choices.
