OUR ADULT LEARN TO CLIMB OPTIONS

We have a wide range of options here at West View Leisure Centre for anybody wanting to learn how to climb. Have a look at what we offer.

What to bring

  • Sensible footwear - i.e. a slim trainer
  • Suitable clothing - something that you can move freely in. 

How to book

You can enrol onto any of our courses in person at reception or by calling us on 01772 796788. Payment must be made at the time of booking.  

Equipment

You will be provided with the necessary equipment to use on your climbing course and there is no extra cost for this. Climbing shoes are not included, but can be hired for just £2.50. Should you wish to use your own equipment, feel free to bring it to your session but let your instructor know.

TASTER SESSIONS

Taster sessions are a one hour session delivered by qualified instructors. During the session you will learn some of the basic skills required for climbing and you'll climb on a variety of indoor climbing and bouldering walls.

Adult Beginner Climbing Course

If you consider yourself new to climbing, then a beginners course must be completed in order to use the climbing wall unsupervised during public times. This is a four week course which will introduce you to basic climbing skills and safety information.  Upon completion of the course you can then register as an unsupervised climber.

What will I learn?

  • safety and best practice using a climbing wall
  • use of equipment
  • belaying
  • knots
  • simple climbing techniques
  • top roping and bouldering

When do the courses run?

Sessions take place on Tuesday or Thursday for 2 hours from 6pm to 8pm. It costs just £55 per person for the 4 week course

Adult Learn to Lead Climbing Course

This is an advanced four week climbing course and is for those who can demonstrate all of the skills from the beginners course and for those who wish to progress to a more advanced climber and learn how to lead climb.

Lead climbing is an advanced climbing technique when the climber clips in for protection, as he/she climbs up and 'leads' the rope to the top of the climb.

What will I learn?

  • how to lead climb
  • use of equipment in leading
  • lead belaying
  • holding a lead fall
  • further climbing techniques

When do the courses run?

Sessions take place on a Thursday from 8pm to 10pm. The course costs just £55 for the 4 weeks.

Belay Buddies

Are you struggling for climbing partners? If you have a just completed a beginners course or are already a registered climber, then our Belay Buddies climbing club could be for you at West View Leisure Centre.

How long is it?

This is two hour session for people who may need a belay or just some assistance from one of our instructors. It's also a perfect opportunity to meet some new climbing friends.

How much?

The cost for the two hour session is £10.00, which includes full use of the centres equipment (£8.00 if you already have your own kit) and the expertise of a qualified centre instructor.

When is it?

  • Wednesday from 7.00pm to 9.00pm
  • No need to book. Simply quote 'belay buddies' at reception.
