With no school swimming taking place prior to April 2021 due to COVID-19 it was essential to get all year 6 pupils back in the pool again before they head off to secondary school.

As swimming is part of the national curriculum all pupils by the end of primary school should be able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke and be able to perform a self rescue.

Vicky Hullock, Lead Swimming Teacher for Appleby has said 'it’s great to see the children back in the pool after being off for such a long period of time. The children have developed their swimming strokes and skills over the last week'
