Our centre has now signed up to Breastfeeding Networks' Breastfeeding Friending Scheme to ensure that everyone is aware that mothers can breastfeed in our centre.

Experts, including the World Health Organization, strongly recommend that babies be fed exclusively on breastmilk for at least their first six months of life. There are benefits for both babies and mothers.

For babies

  • Breast milk is the best nutrition
  • Breastfeeding is recognised as one of the most important interventions in improving children’s health: Reduced risk of gastrointestinal, ear, and respiratory infections; Reduced risk of developing asthma, eczema, and childhood cancers; Protects against obesity, diabetes ,and sudden infant death syndrome

For mothers

  • Reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancer
  • Better bone mineral density in later life
  • Easier to return to pre-pregnancy weight

In the UK, despite more than three-quarters of new mothers starting by breastfeeding, fewer than half of all babies are still receiving breastmilk by the time they are six weeks old. This is why in the UK it is a legal right for mothers to be able to breastfeed their child in public and we want more mothers to feel supported and comfortable to do so within our centre.
