This month we’ve have worked with various groups and organisations to get more members of the community engaged with the leisure centres. With the aim of reaching people who would not normally engage in leisure provision.

Adult Learning Lewisham – Jumpstart Jobs Fair

The Community Sports Manager and the Wavelengths General Manager attended a Job Fair at Adult Learning Lewisham’s Brockley Campus to speak to learners about jobs and career pathways in leisure.

We spoke to several learners who were interested in a lifeguard course. We’ve taken their details and will invite them to our next course due to take place in May. Around 40 people attended this event.

MSK event

In partnership with the MSK team at Lewisham Hospital, Glass Mill Leisure Centre hosted the second of three planned MSK events happening this financial year in the atrium area. Close to 100 people attended this event and they’ll look to expand this again for the March event.

The event was supported by local health groups and organisations from around the borough

Healthy Hearts Fair

The local PCN hosted a Healthy Hearts Fair at Deptford Lounge, Better had a stall as well as lead a short, seated class which was well received. Numerous NHS and other community groups attended this event. After networking with other stallholder’s subsequent meetings have been planned to look at initiatives that will benefit the wider public. We have been invited to another NHS event at the end of March. They also hope to host another Healthy Hearts fair and similar events which we’ve been invited to attend and promote Healthwise and the centres.

Lewisham College

We met with Lewisham College who are looking to use our centres to run Level 2 Gym Instructor courses. We had initially spoken about the college using Bellingham but following out meeting Glass Mill has been chosen due to its proximity to the college. The option to use Wavelengths was also discussed as it is equally as close to the college.

They’ll look to either use the meeting room and the gym or just the gym for the course. They are finalising plans on their side but will look to launch this adult programme in September 2026. With the option to expand to younger learners later down the line.

Felix Fresh Food Giveaway

Bellingham Leisure & Lifestyle Centre hosted another Felix Fresh giveaway at the centre; 232 people attended this session along with Lewisham Local who popped down to handout information to attendees. The event was also supported by the Felix Project Liverpool who had come down to see a giveaway and ours was chosen to showcase how it works due to its popularity.

Haberdashers Gala

Glass Mill Leisure Centre hosted the annual Haberdashers Academy Trust Gala. The gala was attended by 4 primary schools and 7 secondary schools from across London. 240 pupils took part in the gala with 100 parents coming along to spectate.

School staff were complimentary of the centre and the team, sending us an email praising the team's efforts on the day.
They have already enquired about booking another gala next year.
