Throughout this week Glass Mill Leisure Centre has host two events targeting those with health and wellbeing needs.

On Monday 18th May Glass Mill Leisure Centre hosted a CDAG Coffee Morning - Dementia Action Week event. This was a first in a series of events held by the Dementia Action Alliance around the borough to raise awareness and promote support throughout Dementia Action Week.

Around 50 people attended the coffee morning, which was not solely about Dementia but has other stall holders present promoting a range of services available to this group across the borough.

This event has proven to be successful enough that we’re speaking with the organisers about making it a regular event.

Wednesday 20th May Glass Mill Leisure Centre host an MSK event in partnership with the Physiotherapy team at University Hospital Lewisham.

Upwards of one hundred people attended his event. With attendees not only able to have a consultation with the physiotherapy team but also engage with stall holders, covering health and wellbeing services from around the borough. Stall holders included the health services such as COPD team and Stop Smoking Services as there being a stall to promote the the NHS app.

This is the fourth MSK event that Glass Mill Leisure Centre has hosted in the Atrium space, with more events planned throughout 2026. The centre this year has already hosted a Hypertension event and will be hosting a Diabetes event in June. They diabete session will run over two sessions on the 1st of June.

As well hosting NHS events staff from Better have also attended NHS event across the borough including a healthy hearts event at Tidemill school, with another event planned at the end of May at the 2000 Community Action Centre.

By hosting these events with the NHS and other community partners it helps us make the leisure centres more than places for exercise but places where people can come to get health and wellbeing advice and support.
