We’re delighted to announce the launch of a new dementia-friendly swimming session at Morden Leisure Centre, starting Tuesday 11th November. These weekly sessions will run every Tuesday from 10:30am to 11:30am, offering a welcoming and supportive environment for people living with dementia and their carers.

Participants will have exclusive use of the pool from 10:30am to 11:15am, ensuring a calm and quiet experience. A qualified swimming teacher will be on hand to offer guidance and support, although this is not a formal swimming lesson—participants are welcome to simply enjoy time in the water.

The sessions are free of charge, and carers are welcome to attend alongside participants. To support accessibility, designated dementia-friendly lockers will be available, and the session takes place during a quieter time at the centre to help reduce stress and sensory overload.

There are over 900,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and Swim England research shows that low-impact exercise such as swimming has a positive impact on people's physical and mental health. Swimming specifically has the added benefits of reducing anxiety, improving mood, and enhancing psychological wellbeing.

If you or someone you care for is living with dementia, we warmly invite you to come along and experience the benefits of swimming in a dementia-friendly setting.

Bookings can be made via the Better UK app or at reception.
