Manchester City Council has declared a ‘carbon emergency’ with a commitment to meet the net zero carbon targets by 2038, 12 years earlier than the national target.

The intention is to achieve this reduction through the design and implementation of
innovative solutions that will reduce reliance on gas heating and also reduces the site energy demands across its estate.

The Council are investing in making Hough End Leisure Centre more energy efficient to reduce carbon emissions by installing new Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP), Battery Storage, Metering and monitoring. Work has already been completed on installing solar PV modules on the roof and installing LED lighting in the
pool hall.

All works are due to be scheduled around the activities on site and are likely to happen between June 2021 and January 2022. As part of and ahead of doing the energy efficiency works, we will be undertaking surveys on the building and its outside areas so please do not be perturbed or surprised if you see our surveyors or engineers in the vicinity.
