On the 13th of August 2022, Stanborough Park were delighted to welcome back the Chimera Explorer Scouts, of Welwyn Garden City, unit 22, for their fund raising Duck Race in our stream; the first race they had been able to hold since the onset of the global pandemic. The Scouts were raising funds towards there trip to the World Scout Jamboree, to be held in Korea in 2023.

The scout team, known as the Quackers for this event, have been very busy selling tickets since last May. With a huge push in their final 7 days of selling, they made it just beyond their target of 1000 ducks, to have a total of 1044 in the race, thus raising over £3000!

The Quackers arrived at 10am to do some setup, and with the sun glaring down on them. they found themselves acclimatising to how life may be on their trip to the Jamboree in Korea next year. The Quackers team industriously went about setting up the day, putting up gazebos, hanging a net at the finish line and installing signage for the day around the lakes. Once all their tasks were complete they were ready to go; They headed on up to the start point with all their Ducks, only to sell two at the last minute and rush them up to the start line in the nick of time! The race started bang on time at 11am and was all finished by around half past with great fun had by all involved.

After the race the group enjoyed a picnic lunch in the sunshine and then had some games with water balloons, but the heatwave meant that they spent most of our afternoon together in the shade just having a catch up.

Congratulations to the first three finishers; ducks 134, 345 and 828 and commiserations to the last duck home, duck 718! The group were very grateful to everyone who bought a ticket and supported their event, their contribution will help to make the Quackers’ Jamboree experience even more special.
