Throughout the year the Stanborough Better team & The Welhat sports team from Welwyn Hatfield council, work together to provide, totally free, Xplorer activity days for children on the North side of the Park. A fun and free junior orienteering activity, where the children collect a map & answer sheet and try to find the corresponding markers hidden around the park

Over the course of the event, which took place between 25th & 29th October, well over 100 children, and their families, collected their maps and answer sheets from the kiosk at Splashlands and headed off around the North side of the Park to find the spooky Halloween themed markers.

All the Xplorer events this year have been well attended and we, and the Welhat Sports team, look forward to welcoming more children at the park next year.

In addition to our Halloween Xplorer event, also ran a series of youth courses through the October Half term, as well as our usual RYA sailing courses and our paddling courses; this year we introduced some new combination paddle and bushcraft sessions. The children were able to try out some paddlesports, including paddle board, kayak & canoe, and then to make the most of the autumn weather they were able to learn some bushcraft kills, and enjoy a toasted marshmallow or two!

Having turned the water off at Splashlands, as scheduled at the end of September, we were treated to an unseasonably hot weekend in early October so the water was turned on again, much to the delight of many families that came to visit. Although the water is now off until next Easter 2024, our Splashlands playground equipment remains open all year round.

The Staff at Stanborough are now busy making plans for more watersports courses and fun events for younger children in the New Year. Look out for our Polar Penguin search, coming Christmas 2023.
