Platypus Swimming Club Championship Gala celebrates disability and inclusion in water sports!

The Gala was attended by the Mayor of Hatfield, Councillor Mick Wise and India Lind representing Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council.  

There were 10 events in total, being a range of individual races (1, 2 and 3 length races for ladies and gentlemen) plus the ever popular ladies and gentleman’s diving. The Gala was concluded with the hotly contested relay event. There were 20 competitors in total whose ages ranged from 11 to 64. The Club Committee and other volunteers and family members were in attendance to keep the event running smoothly and provide plenty of vocal support! A handicap system for each race is used in order to ensure each member competes on an equal footing.  

Platypus Swimming Club will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026 and has always been based at Hatfield Swim Centre. It currently has 113 members.

Better are proud to support Platypus Swimming Club and encourage anyone living with physical disabilities, learning dificulties, autism, ADHD and other medical needs to come along to their friendly, relaxed swimming environment.
