RLSS Restart a Heart Day - Thursday 16th October
Restart a Heart Day takes place on and around 16th October each year to raise awareness of Cardiac arrest and the importance of learning CPR.
The Initiative is led by Resuscitation council UK, Supported by British heart Foundation, British Red Cross, Royal Lifesaving Society UK, St John Ambulance, The Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, NHS England, Save a Life for Scotland, Save a Life Cymru, and Northern Ireland Ambulance
Why is it Important to learn CPR?
A staggering 80% of out-ofohospitals cardiac arrests take place in the home.CPR is a skill for everyone, yet almost half of UK adults (43 per cent) have never learnt these techniques.Every Minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival from Cardiac arrest by 10%.By Providing training and awareness opportunities as well as the resourses to teach people how to react when someone collapses and stops breathing normally, We Can save lives, both now and in the future.
I'm wanting to learn, where do I start?
There are plenty of ways that you can learn, you just need to find which way will work best for you.
Both Kendal and Ulverston Leisure centre will be taking part in the Restart a Heart Campaign-
Both Centre will stage two free resuscitation workshops for Gym members and the Wider Community on Thursday 16th October Between 17:00-19:00hrs.
This is the first year that Better Lesiure centres in the area have supported the initiativethrough the provision of in-person life saving training.
Better's qualified First Aiders will deliver invaluable sessions that focus on life saving technique for people suffering a cardiac arrest.
Through pratical demonstrations using mannequins and training defibrillators, they will help people gain teh confidence and knowlegdge to react quickly and effectively in an emergency, focusing on how to deliver the two-step process of hands- only CPR and providing a step-by-step guide to using a defibrillator.
