There’s nothing better than when your club replaces old equipment with the new. If you are a regular, you might’ve seen we have got some new tricep ropes, which you can find in the 3 cable stacks that we have in our free weights and resistance kit areas. Great equipment often leads to a great workout, and we want to ensure our members have access to high quality equipment, both cardio and resistance.

Some of our best equipment includes our skillmill, our watt bikes, and our ski erg machine, and if you haven’t already, why not consider dropping it into your workout plan?

Sometimes the concept of lifting weights can be misconstrued, giving us the impression that by lifting weights and adding it into our workout routine It will make us ‘big and bulky’. This certainly isn’t a bad thing; this is a goal that actually a lot of people strive for. One thing to note is that in order to achieve this, it requires a considerable amount of commitment, a calorie surplus and a specific training programme.

When we lift weights, we are creating microscopic tears in the muscle that repair themselves on rest days. When they repair, the muscle will grow slightly and overtime combining a balanced diet with a good amount of protein, you will look and feel stronger!

So by adding weights into your routine, you won’t suddenly become ‘bulky’ unless your training is specific for this, instead, you will start to gain an increase in your strength, you may become leaner, and you will burn calories for longer even after a workout has finished (EPOC).

These are just a couple of the huge benefits surrounding resistance training, with others including more serotonin (feeling better), increased muscular endurance, improved bone density, reduced risk of injury and longevity. If lifting is something you don’t already include and wish to, our team can offer:

  • A re-induction for current members
  • Induction and starter programme for new members
  • Personal training with one of our fantastic in house PT’s
  • Technique breakdown videos on our social platforms
  • Advice on technique and rep ranges

These are all available to book at reception, speak to a member of staff who will book it at a time to fit you!
