Living in Cornwall, swimming is an important life skill and we want everyone to feel happy and confident in the water. We know that times are hard financially for a lot of people at the moment and we want to be able to help as many children within our communities to learn to swim. Therefore we are now launching a concessionary membership for swim school. This membership will give you 20% off our regular swim school membership and is £27.20 for 30min lessons and £32.40 for 45min lessons. To be eligible for this membership you must be in receipt of one of the following;

  • Housing benefit
  • Income support
  • Job seekers allowance
  • Working families tax credit
  • Carers allowance
  • Universal credit
  • Refugee
  • Asylum seekers
  • Disability personal independence payment
  • Disabled ID card

Once signed up for the membership, you must take proof of your eligibility for this membership into your local centre.

Being a not for profit charitable social enterprise, when you sign up for this membership, you are helping your local community as your membership fees are reinvested into the community.

Not only does your child get their 1 swim lesson per week included in this membership, but they also get free swimming during swim for all sessions at their home centre, so they can come and practise all their new skills that they have learnt in their lessons whilst only paying for the adults!

Aside from the physical benefits of learning to swim, children also develop confidence, improve motor skills and the ability to enjoy some of the most beloved summer activities. As well as this, swimming is a compulsory part of the school curriculum and by the time children leave KS2 they should be able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

Our lessons are taught by experienced, qualified teachers, following our industry-leading programmes in a fun and progressive environment. You also have the ability to track your child’s progress throughout their lessons with our online tool - Home Portal.

To book your lessons, please visit our website www.better.org.uk. When adding your child’s details, it will ask for your concessionary type. When you then add the child as an attendee to the class, this is when the membership price will be amended.

Sarah Schofield, Area Swim School Lead explains ‘It is so important to know how to swim and be safe in and around the water, especially living in Cornwall and being surrounded by water. Better, as a social enterprise, are pleased to be supporting local families with this new swim school membership and we hope to encourage even more children to learn this lifesaving and enjoyable skill.'
