Trailblazer Opportunity: Inspiring Young People to Step Into Leisure
Young people across Cambridgeshire are being offered a fresh opportunity to explore a future in leisure, sport and community work through a new initiative delivered by GLL. Beginning at the Abbey Leisure Complex and extending across Cambridge Ice Arena and Cherry Hinton Village Leisure Centre, this programme is designed to open doors for young people and showcase the breadth of careers available within our facilities.
As part of this work, we are hosting an Ignite Into Industry Open Day. The event gives young people a genuine insight into the sector, helping them understand the variety of roles available and the positive impact they can make within their local community. It offers a hands‑on introduction to life in leisure, with opportunities to meet members of our team, hear real career stories and take part in practical activities that reflect the day‑to‑day work of a modern leisure environment.
This project reflects GLL’s wider mission to create accessible and meaningful pathways into employment. Many young people may not yet have considered the leisure industry as a career option, and by providing supportive, welcoming experiences, we aim to help them recognise their strengths, understand the opportunities available to them and feel confident taking their first steps towards training or employment. The initiative also strengthens our connection with local youth networks, ensuring the opportunity reaches those who will benefit most.
The Ignite Into Industry Open Day marks an important step in our ongoing work to support young people across the region. By investing in their development now, we are helping to build a stronger, more confident and more connected community for the future.
