In Camden, Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, Pancras Square Leisure, Oasis Sports Centre, Kentish Town SPorts Centre, and Kings Cross Fitness all saw a wide range of free activities and celebrations take place.

Camden’s Open Weekend brought the Community together in both rain and shine!

Camden’s annual Open Weekend was a huge success across all participating Better leisure centres, even as torrential rain forced many activities indoors. The weekend was a celebration of community, activity, and connection and despite the weather, spirits remained high and the turnout was fantastic.

At Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, the highly anticipated Summer Fete had to be relocated inside, but that didn’t stop the fun. Staff quickly improvised, turning the sports hall into a vibrant indoor hub of activity. Standout moments included an incredible mini Gymnastics camp and a dynamic Taekwondo masterclass led by the amazing Camden GSF Athlete, Christian Langridge. Both of which stole the show and drew crowds throughout the day. Visitors also had the chance to take part in table tennis, cheer on participants in our indoor cycle challenge on the gym’s workout bikes, and browse a number of community stalls.

We were proud to welcome representatives from SHAK, Camden Family Hubs, and Bloomsbury Football, who hosted stalls and spoke to residents about the services and support they provide. To keep guests refreshed, DASH Water kindly supplied complimentary cans of sparkling flavoured water.

Meanwhile, at Oasis Sports Centre, the DJ relocated to the café area, where lively music filled the building and the reception was transformed into an indoor summer party. Attendees enjoyed a range of games, free food, and the chance to win fantastic prizes donated by local businesses such as Rosie & Joe’s.

Across all participating centres, including Kentish Town, Pancras Square, and King’s Cross Fitness, a full timetable of free gym access, swim sessions, group classes, and taster activities took place. Attendance exceeded expectations, with positive feedback pouring in from new and returning visitors alike.

The weekend also welcomed a wave of new members, energised by the free activities and welcoming atmosphere. Despite the challenging weather, Camden’s Open Weekend proved to be a true celebration of community resilience, fun, and fitness come rain or shine.
