New Community Partnership: Tricky Period

Tricky Period is a Period Poverty initiative developed by grassroots homelessness group Streets Kitchen. They get period products from those more able to afford them to those who simply can’t afford and/or can’t access these essential items for a whole host of reasons. Please support us by providing unopened packs of day pads, night pads, panty liners, tampons with applicators and intimate wipes to the Donation Points at Kentish Town Sport Centre and Talacre Community Sport Centre.

Tricky Period regularly supply products to women’s shelters, refuges, mother and baby assessment units as well as directly to those in need on the streets via Streets Kitchen tables across London, their breakfast outreaches and at Showerbox London.

As Tricky Period began to work with a growing number of council libraries, including Camden Libraries who are acting as Tricky Period Pick Up Points we became aware of the work Tricky Period provides and set up this new partnership with leisure centres. Tricky Period recognises libraries as being safe, non- judgemental community spaces where anyone no matter their circumstances can freely walk in and use as many or as few of the services on offer as they wish, making libraries ideal collaborators. Whilst some people may have different views on leisure centres we still remember the volume of donations our wonderful customers gave for our winter food collection campaign in 2019 and hope to replicate that community spirit.

When asked about the new partnership a Tricky Period spokesperson said “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Better Camden on our initiative after they reached out to Tricky Period and we thank you all for your generosity in advance.”

We will help ensure that the process to receive products is simple, discreet and most importantly No Questions Asked.

We agree with Tricky Period’s beliefs that no-one should have to choose between a sandwich and a period pad; between good and poor physical and mental health; between dignity and shame.
