Find out how we help the environment and what you can do to help!
Waterfront Leisure Centre is committed to ensuring we have a better tomorrow.
ENERGY REDUCTION
Over the past 24 months we have continuously looked at ways to reduce energy consumption, as well as implementing & investing in energy saving solutions a better tomorrow is always at the forefront of our minds.
In 2023 we lowered our consumption by 13%
We have dedicated actions on our Energy and Environmental plan to ensure we continue to better the environment and continue to lower our energy consumption in 2024 whist aiming to more sustainable.
What we currently do:
CHP – COMBINED HEAT & POWER
Waterfront Leisure Centre uses combined Heat and Power (CHP). CHP is an efficient process that captures and utilises the heat that is a by-product of the electricity generation process. CHP typically has an efficiency of over 80%.
By generating heat and power simultaneously, CHP can reduce carbon emissions by up to 30% compared to the separate means of a conventional generation via a boilers.
CHP systems are efficient and make use of the heat which would otherwise be wasted when generating electrical or mechanical power. This allows heat requirements to be met that would otherwise require additional fuel to be burnt.
ELIMINATED THE USE OF OVERSHOES
Our lower ground changing Village has a strict no shoes policy, we have eliminated the use of overshoes as they are non-recyclable. We ask that you remove the shoes you entered the centre in. We suggest bring reusable flip flops or sliders if you plan on visiting the pool. This will also help us keep the Changing rooms clean.
SWITCHING TO LED LIGHTS
We will continue switching our lighting to LED’s. LED lights use up to 90% less energy than conventional halogen bulbs and are great for helping reduce energy consumption.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMETAL ACTION PLAN
At Waterfront Leisure Centre we have an Energy & Environmental action plan in place. We regularly review and update the plan with any actions / new ideas.
