Racket sports do have some muscle strengthening benefits both to the upper body and arms and legs. It can also improve your coordination, balance and general mobility.

Tennis is a racket sport which can be played individually against a single opponent and between two teams of two players each. The game was first played between 1859 to 1865 in Birmingham, England. This game can be played both indoors and outdoors. A tennis match consists of a sequence of sets. The winner is decided through a best of three or five sets system.

Table Tennis, also known as Ping-Pong was first played in the 1880’s England. This sport too can be played individually against a single opponent or between two teams of two players each. The players hit a lightweight ball back and forth using small rackets. The game is played on a table and a net is placed in between.

In Badminton, a shuttlecock is used instead of a ball along with a racket. The games played are “singles” (with one player per side) and “doubles” (with two players per side). Badminton was first played in the 19th century and it was included in the Olympics in 1992. Each game is played to 21 points, with players scoring a point whenever they win a rally.
