Did you know Score Leisure Centre hosts a free Taijijian session every Tuesday from 1pm-2.30pm? The activity is funded by Waltham Forest Council, and delivered by Dao Lu, who have the Feel Good Mark which is an accreditation of their quality.

The funding supports 12 weeks of classes and will continue until the 25th November so there is plenty of time to get involved. What are you doing next Tuesday?

Booking is done through Dao Lu or you can arrive around 10 minutes before the session and fill in a physical registration form. You can sign up online here or email questions to info@daolu.co.uk

Bel Calaguas from Dao Lu explains what the activity is and why people over the age of 50 should join in, “The practice of Tai Chi straight sword also known as taijijian, is slow-moving, core-strengthening, breath-expanding meditation in motion. Participants experience all the benefits of Tai Chi exercise - improved balance and coordination, strength and flexibility, increased mental focus and calmness, with the additional excitement and fun of using swords to extend the reach of each step and movement.”

The classes in the large and spacious sports hall have been popular with 34 at the first one on September 9th and 112 throughout the month. However, there are spaces available if you or someone you know might have an interest in attending.

Daniel Bank, Community Sport Manager for GLL in Waltham Forest, said “We know people are enjoying the experience. We hope more people hear about this free opportunity to be active and learn a new skill with a trusted community partner, Dao Lu.”

Exercise is a great way to support healthy ageing and if you are over the age of 60 or feel that a lower intensity activity is appropriate then you can get involved with Better With Age the ongoing sessions across Waltham Forest. The timetable is attached in this article.
