Leytonstone Leisure Centre supporting the community
This June you will have seen Better staff at the Langthorne Park Festival, on 7th June, and recently General Manager for Leytonstone Leisure Centre, Lauren Campbell, attended a litter pick with Mayville Primary School on Friday 27th June.
During the litter pick the young children shared their concerns about the public space and their aspirations for what they would like in the local area. 14 bags of rubbish were filled by the productive team in an hour. The school network was told about the upcoming Better Summer Open Weekend on the 19th and 20th July. Missed the news story? Read more about the free activities here and you can book now!
Did you get involved in Langthorne Park Festival? The was range of things to do including arts and crafts, bouncy castle, roller disco, food or drink venders, youth providers and Dr Bike, a free bike repair service. If you missed out, the date for the annual community event will be the 6th June 2026.
At the festival Better through the team at Leytonstone Leisure Centre provided an outreach stall with on the day sign-up offers, equipment for table tennis, a free chair-based exercise taster, a free Zumba work-out, and via Healthwise provided free health checks.
We got the party started with Tanya, one of our Group Exercise Instructors, delivering a lively dance session in the amphitheatre. Everyone was encouraged to get involved and in one situation a person provided one of our Better t-shirts as she didn’t want to get her top sweety. Additionally, we gave out a few sweat towels as we predicted that could be a barrier to a participation. Those that took part in the activity were encouraged to attend Tanya’s hour-long Zumba class on Wednesday evenings at Leytonstone Leisure Centre or other similar fitness classes.
For those unsure why they should exercise, Leytonstone Leisure Centre regular Tim shared his insight at Langthorne Park, “No matter who you are, no matter what shape you are, what race you are, what condition you are in at the moment, every time you come you will just a little bit fitter and a little bit happier. All you need to do is try it once and it can grow on you and you will be a healthier, happier person."
Academia supports Tim's comments that with more exercise there will be benefits to health and mental well-being. The Chief Medical Officer recommends that adults should have 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week. Whatever stage of your fitness journey you are at, we are here to support you or those close to you.
