We offer a fantastic range of courses here at Debdale. Most require a minimum number of candidates to be able to go ahead. If you have a group who would like to complete the course together, courses can be arranged by request during normal centre opening hours. All prices include course material and appropriate personal protective equipment.
RYA COURSES
RYA stands for Royal Yachting Association. Set up in 1875 as the Yacht Racing Association, the RYA has since become the national governing body for dinghy, motor and sail cruising, all forms of sail racing, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing and personal watercraft and a leading representative body for inland waterways cruising.
The RYA exists to get more people into boating and watersport activities, promote safe boating practices and raise the standards of yachting and sailing in the UK through its network of more than 2,400 RYA recognised training centres in more than 58 countries, and more than 1,500 RYA affiliated clubs.
Dinghy Sailing Level 1 - Start Sailing
An introducion to the sport, covering the minimum knowledge required to get afloat under supervision. The course provides a short introduction to sailing for novices.
By the end of the course you will have the basic understanding of Dinghy handling techniques and background knowledge. It is recommended that all participants consolidate this short introduction with the Basic Skills and Better Sailing Course.
The duration of the course is 16 hours which is spread over a series of sessions or two full days.

Dinghy Sailing Level 2 - Start Sailing
Developing the techniques to sail independently.
On completion of this course, you will have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor on board in light winds. It will be assumed that every student starting this course has already mastered the practical skills and absored the background knowledge required for Start Sailing. Both courses can be combined. Dinghy or multihull capsize recovery will be conducted in a controlled manner, one boat at a time, with a suitable rescue boat in attendance.
The duration of this course is 16 hours which will be spread over a series of sessions or over two full days.

First Aid Course
Our one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages.
This course is MCA approved and satisfies the requirements for Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster and Advanced Powerboat certificates of competence and some commercial work afloat. Taught by a qualified instructor for the Royal Yachting Association

Safety Boat
This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities.
It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying.

Powerboat Level 2
Over this 2 day course you will develop the essential skills for driving a power boat. You will learn low speed manoeuvres as well as safe boat handling at high speed. You will also learn basic engine maintenance, chart work, collision regulations, tides & weather.

PADDLE UK COURSES
Set up in 1936 to send a team to the Berlin Olympics, British Canoeing is the lead body for canoeing and kayaking in the UK. Since then the organisation has grown considerably, and the range of canoeing opportunity has increased tremendously.
Start Paddling Taster Sessions
Experience your first session on the water; learning useful skills for an enjoyable paddling experience. It aims to provide you with the basic knowledge to enable you to safely get in and out of your boat, make it move and return to your start point. This is your first step into the world of paddling, ensuring you feel safe, confident and ready to progress to the Discover Award.

The Discover Award allows you to develop your decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water, taking you on the next step towards becoming a proficient and independent paddler.
Learn how to choose and effectively use equipment whilst developing an understanding of the factors which affect your paddling, giving you confidence to progress to making your own choices with the Explore Award.

The Explore Award gives you ownership, allowing you to choose where to move next in the world of paddlesport. Working with a coach you will be able to develop a programme that suits what you need. Learning to make confident choices with this individualised approach.
