Whilst 2021 saw the whole world recovering from unprecedented times Cade Makin, a Full time Recreation Assistant at East Manchester Leisure Centre was able to achieve what most would only ever dream of, a chance to represent his country in a sport that he loves.

Cade is a long standing member of staff who began his working life as a leisure apprentice at Abraham Moss back in 2012. 3 months into his year long apprenticeship Cade was offered a full time position. Cade has worked in leisure full time whilst playing the sport he loves, British American Football.

Cade has a number of achievements to shout about in his sport including:

  • Defensive rookie of year
  • Beating London Olympians in the National Championships final to secure promotion to the Premier League
  • Dominating and making the playoffs in 2018 and 2019
  • Team Captain for the Largest American Football Programmes in the UK

With Cades talent in sport and GLL operating the Manchester partnership, it was only a matter of time before Cade became part of the GLL Sports Foundation. He applied in February 2020 and was accepted shortly after.

"The fact i am able to access GLL facilities to train outside of Titans training, really helps me gain those extra percentages whilst not having to worry about financing the extra sessions".

In October 2021 Cade applied for the GB trials along with more than 500 other British American Football players all looking for the chance to represent their country. Only 192 actually progressed through the application stage, from here Cade would be 1 of only 50 players to be invited to the Great Britain National Programme.

Cade will be attending as many GB programmes as possible to ensure he is in a spot where he can be selected to attend the International Championships in 2022.

When he is not playing Cade also coaches. He wanted to give back to the club that helped him and coaches on a voluntary basis, where he has hopes of inspiring the next generation of talented athletes.

Congratulations Cade, keep working hard and inspiring us all.
