Manchester City Council is proposing to undertake a full refurbishment at Manchester Aquatics Centre to bring the facility up to modern day standards for the benefit of all users.
The refurbishment scheme has been designed to maintain and grow the centre's aquatics and health and fitness programmes for the next 20 years. This will include upgrade works to all areas of the centre including:
- All swimming pools
- Fitness suites including all gyms and studios
- Leisure Water
- Health Suite
- Changing Place - accessible changing provision to meet the needs of disabled people
The refurbishment will introduce new digital and sustainable technologies helping to make us more energy efficient and to provide a more modern and efficient building in the long term.
The works would be split into phases to enable a reduced programme of public swimming to continue at all times. We will however need to close the gym, studio, health suite, main pool, diving pool and cafe during phase 1 of the project, the training pool will remain open and access to nearby centres provided throughout this period which we anticipate will be from December 2021 to late Spring 2023.
If you would like to know more information and what this will mean for you, we would like to invite you to come along to one of our public information sessions:
Monday 9th August 2021 between 7am and 9am
Tuesday 10th August 2021 between 11.30am and 1pm
Wednesday 11th August 2021 between 5pm and 7pm
There's no need to book to attend, just come along. All sessions will be held in the Cafe on the ground floor at Manchester Aquatics Centre.
At all of these sessions representatives from Manchester City Council, MCRactive, GLL and the project team will be on hand to take questions and explain the progress to date and give an outline of the programme including any relocation options that are being developed for the service impacted. Additionally, we will be explaining what we are investing in and what the building will look like post completion. If there are any outstanding concerns that cannot be addressed these will be identified and logged for the appropriate feedback before planning is submitted.
If you would like to send any feedback on the proposals, even after the information sessions have taken place, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
