In September we set out to find the next generation of Lifeguards to supervise our pools in Manchester and make a difference. The course aimed to secure better employment prospects for Manchester Residents and signposted those looking for full time, part time or flexible employment contracts.

The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, awarded by the Royal Lifesaving Society is the gold standard for Pool Lifeguards working up and down the UK. Twelve successful candidates passed an initial swim test and secured their spot on the week long course.

The course runs Monday to Friday 8.30am - 17.30pm and is an intensive course covering all things pool lifeguard including, the lifeguard and the law, pool rescues, first aid, CPR and defibrilator training. With a final exam to sit on the Saturday including a multiple choice exam, a practical dry and first aid assessment and various swim and rescue tests.

All twelve candidates passed the assessment and are now proud holders of the NPLQ qualification and are being employed as members of staff to begin their journey on a career in the leisure industry. Most, if not all of our senior leadership team in Manchester started out as pool lifeguards, so for these lucky twelve, the future is looking very bright.
