Here at Sleaford Leisure Centre we like to take the time to recognise one of our members each month. This month we’ve awarded June Veal as our member of the month.
June is one of our longest standing members, and has used the facilities as both a swimming teacher and a swimmer. June began working as a swimming teacher for the council in 1972 when the pool was open air and only open several months of the year.
Speaking to June about her time teaching she recalls teaching schools during a really hot summer in 1976 when the school’s lessons ran alongside a public session. Needless to say the pool was busy and teaching would have been difficult! She worked as a teacher until 2002 when she retired. During her 30 years service she taught hundreds of children to swim including Jamie one of our lifeguards!
June still swims with us regularly, coming in each morning for a dip followed by a cuppa! She’s always bright, positive and supportive of the centre. We’re proud to have June as a member of our facility and hope she continues to enjoy swimming with us! Thank you June!
