The Welwyn Hatfield Community Fund (WHCF) has awarded its largest funding amount to date to Panshanger Primary school. The schools swimming pool, which had been used for many years, was in desperate need of repair, without which it was facing permanent closure. The pool is used weekly through the warmer months for P.E swimming lessons. It is also used by the school and wider community after school and in the school holidays. Being able to learn how to swim at school was seen as an incredibly important opportunity to maintain, for the coming generations of pupils. Alongside fundraising from the very dedicated school PTA, the Welwyn Hatfield Community Fund awarded £50,000 towards the pool renovation. This allowed the school to keep this vital resource for the community. As well as specialist contractors who worked on the project, parents and other members of the school community volunteered their time to help with painting and other jobs that needed doing.

The Trustees of the WHCF recently visited the pool and were delighted to see the results of the funding, and to hear how valuable it is to the school. The funding has ensured that this will now continue to benefit many young people for years to come, leaving a legacy of the funds impact.

Matt Perren, Chair of the Welwyn Hatfield Community Fund writes;

“We’re delighted to be able to announce our largest support to date for Panshanger Primary School’s project to restore their swimming pool. This funding will ensure a vital sport and leisure facility remains in use both for the students and the wider community, especially given the School and PTA’s own fundraising efforts.”
